Communitas Charter High School (CCHS) was a progressive charter school in the Blossom Valley area of South San Jose, California that served approximately 60 students. This school was founded & supported by the Young Spirit Foundation.[1]

Academics

Communitas used a combination of project-based and inquiry-based learning in its curriculum. Integrated Studies at Communitas is a multidisciplinary approach from the subjects of English, social studies, and the sciences to help answer questions related to solving real-world problems. The school had a diverse enrollment.[2]

Campus

The school was located on 4849 Pearl Avenue, San Jose, California and shares its campus with the neighboring Erikson school near Ohlone-Cheynoweth Light Rail Station.

Closure

On May 20, 2013, the Communitas Board of Directors voted to close the school due to financial and enrollment difficulties. On October 24, 2013, controversy was raised in a report by the San Jose Mercury News relating to several former students who were denied entry by the Campbell Union High School District without being forced to repeat a year.
