Politics of the United States Political parties Elections |
The Communist Party of Texas is a political party in the U.S. state of Texas. It is a member of the Communist Party USA and operates as a state district.[1]The party is headquartered in Austin and is chaired by Jim Lane.
The Communist Party's aim is the abolition of private ownership and control of capital and the construction of a classless, moneyless, and stateless society thereafter. The party has a long history of progressive struggle against segregation and for immigration reform, as well as being targeted by state-supported repression and terrorism. In 1951, the state passed the "Communist Control Act" which required party members to register with authorities and prescribed a two- to ten-year prison term for failure to comply with the law.[2] Until 1991, the party was constantly harassed by state law enforcement, through spying and police raids. Today, the Texas Communist Party is among the CPUSA's fastest growing chapters, its most recent state conference being held in April 2014.
The party has city clubs in Austin, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio.
