Colletorto is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Campobasso in the Italian southern region of Molise, located about 60 kilometres (37 mi) from the capital of region Campobasso. As of 31 December 2013, it had a population of 2,016 and an area of 35.9 square kilometres (13.9 sq mi).[1]
Colletorto is situated on a hill of 500 m above sea level up to colle Crocella (739 m). All around are fields of olive trees, and the famous "oliva nera di Colletorto" that make a special extra virgin olive oil.
Colletorto is divided in two part the upper is called "Colle" and down is "Terra", crossing the main road and arriving in the historic center of the town "Campo dei Fiori" (Field of flowers) it's present the Angioina tower, 25 mt high and built in 1369, from the it's possible see the Apulia region with the Gargano hill, Lesina salt lake and the Adriatic Sea, and in nice and sunny days even the Tremiti Islands. Monuments are "Palazzo Rota", the church of "San Giovanni Battista", the church of "Purgatorio" and the convent united with the church of "Sant'Alfonso de Liguori". Very nice to discover are the very small road of "Campo dei Fiori" where the smallest is only 34 cm large, the chapel of "Santa Maria di Laureto" 3 km away from the town, on a small hill and surrounded by olive trees!
Colletorto borders the following municipalities: Carlantino, Casalnuovo Monterotaro, San Giuliano di Puglia, Sant'Elia a Pianisi.
