Colin Falvey (born 20 June 1985 in Cork) is an Irish professional footballer who currently plays for Ottawa Fury FC of the North American Soccer League.[1]

Career

Ireland

Falvey was a trainee and youth player at English clubs Gillingham and Carlisle United, but began his professional career in 2004 with Cobh Ramblers in the League of Ireland, scoring on his debut vs Athlone Town.[2] He transferred to Kilkenny City prior to the 2007 campaign for a compensation fee because he was under the age of 23, and was made club captain upon arrival. During his time playing in Ireland he attracted interest from Swindon Town, but opted to sign a contract with Otago United in New Zealand under ex Irish international Terry Phelan.

New Zealand/United States

Falvey spent one year in New Zealand with Otago United, where he was club captain,[3] before signing for the Wilmington Hammerheads in the USL Second Division for the 2009 season.[4]

He played 15 games and scored 1 goal for the Hammerheads in 2009, earning him defensive MVP honours and been selection in the league team of the season while also helping them to the 2009 USL Second Division regular season title. After the season he returned to New Zealand on a 6-month contract to play for YoungHeart Manawatu.[5] On 25 February 2010 the Charleston Battery announced the signing of Falvey to a one-year contract.[6]

Falvey signed on loan with previous New Zealand outfit YoungHeart Manawatu during the USL Professional Division off season. While on loan, he was linked with a move away from the Battery. After a successful championship season Falvey gained praise for his performances against high profile forwards such as USA international Brian McBride and Bolton Wanderers pair Kevin Davies and Johan Elmander when the Premier League side came for a visit during there pre season tour of America in July.

On 10 February 2011, Falvey signed a new and improved contract with Charleston for the 2011 season.[7] He signed a new 3-year contract with Charleston on 8 December 2011.[8] Falvey has built quite the following at the battery, with the captain having his own supporters group called "Falveys Army" He is now also the clubs most successful captain winning 2 USl pro league championships in 2010 and 2012.Falvey has been selected 3 out of 4 seasons in the league teams of the year with the 2013 season been his most successful, when he was awarded the 2013 USL Pro defender of the year trophy by leagues coaches and officials.
