Colégio de São Bento is a Benedictine school for boys in Rio de Janeiro - Brazil with a history that dates back more than 150 years. Colégio de São Bento is managed by Benedictine monks, since the school was founded in 1858 on the hills overlooking Rio de Janeiro's harbor and the Guanabara Bay, adjacent to the Benedictine Monastery of Rio de Janeiro.

The Benedictine Monastery of Rio de Janeiro, locally referred to in Brazilian Portuguese as Mosteiro de São Bento, was founded in 1590. Although the school is still run by the Monastery that founded it, students who attend Colégio de São Bento may come from any denomination or religion.

All students follow a broad course of study, which includes Theology, Music, Physics, Algebra, Geometry, Chemistry, Classic Culture, Brazilian and Portuguese Literature and Portuguese Language, History, French, Spanish and English Languages, Philosophy, Sociology, Geography and Art History, among other subjects.

The school has been consistently rated the best Brazilian high school by ENEM (National High School Assessment Test), showing the highest ranking of college admissions in the country in 6 out of the last 8 years.

Graduates refer to themselves as Benedictines and often maintain a close relationship with one another over a lifetime. This family-like connection that exists among them not only links them to one another, but also maintains their strong connection with their school and its church, The Benedictine Monastery of Rio de Janeiro, throughout their entire lives.

Brazilian leaders from government and business, renowned doctors, educators, poets, musicians and writers have graduated from Colégio de São Bento.
