Coaltown of Balgonie

Coaltown of Balgonie is a village in south central Fife.[1] It is located on the B9130 road in the heart of Fife, next to the new town of Glenrothes in east-central Scotland. Coaltown has a Scotmid Co-op shop with a post office, a pub, a bowling green, a village hall, a church, and a primary school.

There is an industrial estate and business park at the west end of the village, named Eastfield, which has a transport interchange at Bankhead Roundabout.

Bus transport

Stagecoach in Fife run services X4A, 43A, 44A, 45 and 46A through the village, and Moffat & Williamson run services 2, STP3 and AUC5.


Stagecoach in Fife services G7, X24, X37, 38A, X40, X42, X54 and X59 depart from the transport interchange at Eastfield, with buses to various locations throughout Scotland, such as Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Dunfermline, St Andrews and Kirkcaldy, as well as regular buses into Glenrothes.

Rail transport

Coaltown of Balgonie is located on the East Coast Main Line between Kirkcaldy and Markinch. Although Coaltown does not have a railway station, regular bus services run to Markinch Railway Station and buses from the interchange at Eastfield go to Kirkcaldy Railway Station.
