Clipstone F.C. is an English football club based in Clipstone, near Mansfield in Nottinghamshire. The club, plays at the Lido Ground, which is currently known as The Worksop Van Hire Stadium as part of a sponsorship deal and the club plays in Division One of the Northern Counties East League.
History
The club was established in 1928 as Clipstone Combine, and initially played in the Colliery Alliance at a ground near Mansfield Road. They later moved to Baulker Lane and were renamed Clipstone Boys Brigade before adopting the name Clipstone Welfare. The club moved up to the Mansfield & District League, later transferring to the Sutton & Skegby League and the Nottingham Spartan League. They won the league, league cup and Notts Intermediate Cup in 1955–56. They then moved up to the Notts Alliance and moved to the Lido Ground.
In 1972–73 they won the Senior Division and the Notts Senior Cup, a feat repeated in the next two seasons. They began entering the FA Vase in 1974, reaching the second round in their first season. They won back-to-back league titles in 1992–93 and 1993–94, before moving up to the Central Midlands League.[1] In 1994–95 they won the league's Premier Division, and after winning it for a second time in 1996–97, were promoted to the Supreme Division. The League was re-organised at the start of the 2011–12 season and Clipstone was placed in the South Division. That season, Clipstone applied to be elevated to the Northern Counties League and got that promotion despite finishing in fourth place. [2]
Former Retford United manager Brett Marshall joined the club as Chairman in February 2013 forming a complete new committee to take the football club forward over the next 2 years. The club dropped the 'Welfare' part of its name in the summer of 2013 to become simply Clipstone.
In May 2013 the club announced a new multi-season sponsorship deal with local based painting and decorating contractors Riley & Co (Mansfield) Ltd, with them becoming not only the main club sponsor but home and away shirt sponsors as well for the duration of the sponsorship.
At the start of the 2013–14 season Mansfield Town announced that their under 19 team & development teams would play their home games at Clipstone. Barry Clarke was honored at the club for 40 years service with the new hospitality suite being named in his honour.
The 2014–15 season saw Chris Millington appointed as First Team Manager joining the club from NCEL member Dronfield Town. 2014-15 was the first season in the club's history that they competed in the FA Cup after successfully qualifying in 2014-15.
Chairman Brett Marshall left the club in May 2015 after a successful 27 months putting solid foundations in place for the football clubs future.
