Clinton Gutherson (born 9 September 1994) is an Australian professional rugby league footballer for the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles of the National Rugby League. He primarily plays fullback, wing and centre.
Background
Born in Mona Vale, New South Wales, Gutherson played his junior football for the Cromer Kingfishers before being signed by the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles. As a youngster, he played for the New South Wales Under 16s and Under 18s teams.
Playing career
On 25 February 2012, Gutherson re-signed with the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles on a 2-year contract.[2]
In 2012 and 2013, Gutherson played for the Sea Eagles' NYC team.[3]
In 2012, Gutherson played for the Australian Schoolboys.[4]
In 2013 and 2014, Gutherson played for the New South Wales Under 20s team.[5][6]
In Round 26 of the 2013 NRL season, Gutherson made his NRL debut for the Sea Eagles against the Penrith Panthers.[7] He scored a try on debut.
On 21 September 2014, Gutherson was named as the 18th-man reserve in the 2014 New South Wales Cup Team of the Year.[8]
Gutherson played 3 first grade games for the Sea Eagles in 2014, scoring a try in each game, though his season suffered a setback when he broke a bone in his right foot during Manly's 40-8 win over the Wests Tigers at Brookvale Oval in Round 18. He made his return to the side as a late replacement for regular fullback Brett Stewart in Round 26 (scoring another try), though with Stewart's return he was overlooked for the NRL Finals series.
A shoulder injury to former international Centre Steve Matai saw Gutherson selected in the centres for Manly's opening game of the 2015 NRL season at Parramatta Stadium. Unfortunately for Gutherson he lasted only 13 minutes and 37 seconds of the game before he ruptured the Anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. Later scans confirmed the ACL injury and Gutherson has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.
On 28 April 2015, Gutherson re-signed with the Sea Eagles on a 2-year contract.[9]
