Clare Grant

Clare Grant (born August 23, 1979) is an American actress, voice actress, producer, model and singer.

Early life and career

She is the oldest of eight siblings and is named after her father, Clarence, who was a popular local Memphis DJ. Her mother Glenna is a real estate agent. Clare is of Irish, English, Scandanavian and Native American descent. While growing up in Memphis, Grant voiced many radio commercials, sang competitively and began acting in local theater productions. To support herself through college, Grant modeled through Elite Model Management in America and Europe on several campaigns, including L'Oréal. In 2006, Clare toured with the band Wired All Wrong singing backup, most notably opening for Beck at LA Weekly's Detour Festival.^[1]

Career

Film work

After booking the first film she auditioned for, a small but pivotal role in Walk the Line, romantically opposite Joaquin Phoenix, Grant continued to star in several independent films while earning her BFA in Theater Performance at the University of Memphis before moving to Los Angeles. While in Memphis, she met director Craig Brewer who cast her as the lead in two of his indie films before casting her in the film Black Snake Moan as Christina Ricci's best friend, and later as the lead in his MTV series $5 Cover.^[2] She then played the lead role of Megan Graves in comic book writer Brian Pulido's first independent feature film The Graves, followed by the role of Beverly in the film Joshua Tree, 1951: A Portrait of James Dean, directed by Matthew Mishory.^[3] In 2013, Grant played the lead role of Martha Collins in the film The Insomniac,^[4] directed by Monty Miranda, and voiced Black Widow in the Marvel Animation movie Iron Man: Rise of Technovore^[5]. Most recently, Clare joined an all-star cast in the upcoming feature, Evil Nature, and the next Peter Bogdanovich produced film, Phantom Halo. Both films set to release in 2015.

Television work

Grant's first television role, was the lead role on the Emmy winning Showtime original series Masters of Horror: Valerie on the Stairs, followed by the series lead role on the MTV series $5 Cover,^[2] about the trials and tribulations of the current Memphis music scene, created by fellow Memphian Craig Brewer. Since then, Grant has appeared in guest starring roles on shows such as CSI: Miami and Warren the Ape. She does voices on Robot Chicken,^[2] MAD, originated a bounty hunter named Latts Razzi on Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and voices Titania on Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H..

In October 2006, after her role in Masters of Horror: Valerie on the Stairs, she appeared as "Babe of the Month" in a non-nude pictorial in Playboy magazine.^[6]

In 2013, Adult Swim announced that Grant co-created and will be starring in and executive producing a pilot based on the webseries she co-created, Team Unicorn.^[7]

Other projects

Under their company Danger Maiden Productions, Grant began her producing endeavors with her partner Rileah Vanderbilt, with their viral online series Saber,^[8] winning them two awards at the 2009 Star Wars Fan Film Awards: Best Action and Audience Choice awards.^[9] In 2010, the duo began working with Milynn Sarley & Michele Boyd to create the online series Team Unicorn.^[10] In its first week alone, the team’s first project, G33k & G4m3r Girls, a parody of Katy Perry's California Gurls video,^[11] achieved over one million views.^[12] Stirring much controversy over its sexy portrayal of the women,^[13] G33k & G4m3r Girls is a "love letter"^[14] written by the girls that pays tribute^[15] to their shared mutual passion of gaming, manga, and science fiction. Grant continues to create viral videos with Danger Maiden, most recently the biggest hit from Team Unicorn yet, a Star Wars/Meghan Trainor parody called "All About that Base".^[16] She guest-starred in the second season of the Jane Espenson-scripted romantic comedy web series Husbands and has also guest starred on popular geeky webseries such as The Guild, Save the Supers, Q.V.G., and Tabletop.^[17] In 2013, Grant starred as Mala in the Wonder Woman short that achieved over 3 million views in 24 hours, which stars Vanderbilt as Wonder Woman.^[18]

Personal life

Grant first met actor Seth Green in 2006 at Golden Apple Comics and married him on May 1, 2010 at Skywalker Ranch,^[2] by Grant's long time friend and director, Craig Brewer.
