City West is a Transperth railway station 1.6 kilometres (0.99 mi) from Perth railway station in Perth, Western Australia, on the Fremantle Line. The station was opened on 18 June 1986 as West Perth. Its name was changed to City West on 19 November 1987. It serves the City West commercial complex, including Scitech, and the West Perth business district. It replaced the original West Perth Station that served the Perth Metropolitan Markets, which was further to the east on the other side of the West Perth Subway (see commemorative plaques).
Service
City West is on the Fremantle Line of the Transperth Trains network, a hybrid metro-commuter rail system with five lines in metropolitan Perth. As such, it receives trains eastbound to central Perth and westbound to the suburbs of Subiaco and Fremantle. Seven stopping patterns serve City West station: all stations, A, B, D, K, L and S (to Perth only).[1] In effect, all Fremantle Line trains stop at City West.
In the inbound direction, all trains regardless of stopping pattern at previous stations take two minutes to reach Perth at an average of 75.0 km/h (46.6 mph).[1]
In the outbound direction, an all-stations train takes about 28 minutes, averaging 39.5 km/h (24.5 mph), to arrive at Fremantle.[1] A-pattern trains operate express to Subiaco and Claremont, from there stopping at all stations to Fremantle in 22 minutes at an average of 46.6 km/h (29.0 mph). B-pattern trains make all stops to Claremont and then run express to Fremantle, taking about 21 minutes at 48.9 km/h (30.4 mph).[1] K-pattern trains stop at all stations except for Karrakatta and Swanbourne taking about 24 minutes, averaging 42.8 km/h (26.6 mph), to arrive at Fremantle. L-pattern trains stop at all stations apart from Loch Street and Grant Street taking 25 minutes at a speed of 41.0 km/h (25.5 mph).[1]
