Cinema Foundation of Russia
Cinema Foundation of Russia, known as Fond Kino (Фонд Кино; Officially Federal Fund for Economic and social support of the Russian Cinematography, Федеральный фонд социальной и экономической поддержки отечественной кинематографии) is a Russian government agency with a mandate to promote the creation and distribution of films in Russia as well as to preserve the country's film history.
It also had a production arm responsible for production and commissioning of films for the Russian Government. It was established by the Government of Russia in 1994 in order to promote the Cinema of Russia which celebrated 100th Birthday. The fund is considered as one of the most important federal regulators in the film industry in the Russian Federation.
The Foundation is financially assisting film and television production and also produced films generally intended for government purposes.
Missions
- financial support for producers and distributors of national films, as well as other cinema organizations engaged in the production and distribution of domestic films;
- attract Russian and foreign investors to finance the production, distribution and display of national films and the development of material and technical basis of cinematography;
- control of targeted and effective use of financial resources allocated by the Fund;
- research and independent public examination of projects and other activities in the field of cinematography;
- development of projects and programs in the national film industry and finance their implementation;
- organization of joint projects with international organizations in the field of cinematography;
- support international contacts and relations in cinematographic sphere;
- participation in national and international film festivals, to hold a week of Russian cinema abroad, as well as the representation of Russian film productions at major international film markets;
- support of producers and international sales agencies in the preparation of Russian films for releasing abroad;
- institution and the awarding of prizes and scholarships, issuing allowances, grants, etc. .;
- charitable activities in cinema;
- implementation of foreign economic activity in Russian cinema;
- participate in the activities of non-profit organizations.
