Chunk of Change
Chunk of Change is the debut EP by American electropop band Passion Pit, released on September 16, 2008 by Frenchkiss Records and Columbia Records. A video for the single "Sleepyhead" was released in October 2008, directed by The Wilderness. The track was featured in the debut trailer for the 2011 video game LittleBigPlanet 2. "Better Things" was sampled by the alternative hip hop duo Chiddy Bang for their 2009 song "Truth".
Background
In an interview with The Sun in December 2008, lead singer Michael Angelakos explained: "Originally [the EP] was a Valentine's gift for my girlfriend that was never supposed to go beyond her ears. She put up with a lot of my shit and was a saint for it and that is the theme of a lot of the EP."[12] The tracks "Better Things" and "Sleepyhead" were added for the commercial release of the EP.[13] "Sleepyhead" was eventually included on Passion Pit's full-length debut album Manners (2009); Angelakos told The Sun that "[t]he only reason we put 'Sleepyhead' on the album is because it's a beautiful song and we had it mastered. Nothing on Chunk Of Change was mastered, so we opened it up a bit in the mix and it was a great way of seeing the song in another light."[14]
