Chu Mei-feng (Chinese: 璩美鳳; pinyin: Qú Měifèng b. August 5, 1966) is a Taiwanese TV journalist, former Taipei City councillor and the former director of Hsinchu City's Bureau of Cultural Affairs.

Early Life

Chu graduated from Xinheguomin Primary School, Taipei Municipal Huajiang Senior High School, Taipei First Girls High School, National Chengchi University, and Metropolitan State University. She has worked for the China Morning Edition and the Zili Evening Paper.

Biography

While a journalist of TTV World News, Chu took some photos of a lesbian bar without disclosing it to her subjects, leading to some lesbians being exposed to the public and even resulting in the suicide of some, who were put under social pressure by Chu's actions. Additionally, she implied that the Taiwanese actor Pan Mei-chen was a lesbian. As a result, Chu was considered to have broken the appropriate ethical standards of journalism ethics and has since left the TTV World News.[2]

Chu became the news director and host for CSTV after she left TTV. Meanwhile, she joined the New Party. In 1994, Chu became the Taipei City Councillor. She came to prominence when she exposed the "Song Qi-li event" in 1996. The "Song Qi-li event" concerned the chairman of the Democratic Progressive Party, Xie Chang-ting, who received $16 million from Song Qi-li as the fee for serving him as the legal counsel. Also, the wife of Xie Chang-ting, You Fang-zhi, wrote a book <Cosmic Light> for Song to seek profits.

Chu was the MC in the rally of 1998 Taipei mayor election. In order to help the candidate from the New Party, Yang Tai-shun, to be elected, Chu recorded a show reporting news of the New Party and Yang Tai-shun at 23 p.m. that night, which violated the Civil Servants Election and Recall Act regulating against anything about the rally being held after 22 p.m. that night. Chu became the director of Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Hsinchu City Hall in 1998. At that time, she was rumored to be dating the mayor of the Hsinchu, Yang Tai-shun. Chu was nominated by Taichung to be the candidate of legislator, but failed to be elected.

Chu left office in 2001 due to fallout from a video released by a Taiwanese tabloid showing her having sex with her married lover. In 2002, Chu started a career as a singer.[3] She later returned to Taiwan.

As of 2007, she hosts TV news for Macau Asia Satellite Television.[4]

In June 2005, Chu got married with a man named Simon who is 14 years younger than her. After they got married, they ran a cafeteria together in England.[5] As of 2007, she hosts TV news for Macau Asia Satellite Television.[2] Chu went back to Taiwan to pick Shen Rong who was just released from the prison on Feb 26th,2008. On July 2008, Macau Asia Satellite Television announced that they have already recalled Chu from being the Vice Master of television and been sent to host the talk show in Shenzhen.[6] However, she denied this when she was interviewed on October 27th 2008.[7] On Feb 2009, Chu went back to Taiwan for hosting the 9th Mainland, Hong Kong and Macau business cooperation conference. At that time, she looked really sick and she explained later that it was because she had three housing loans in Taiwan and one housing loan in America, which made her really pressured.[8] Chu was recalled by the Macau Asia Satellite Television in May 2009 because of the maturity of the contact. In Nov 2009, Chu admitted that her marriage with her ex-husband Simon only lasted for one year and a half.The ownership of the cafeteria belonged to Simon. Chu issued a declaration that she had resigned the job of being the CEO of Hubei Television on September 2nd 2010.[9] However, the director of Hubei Television said that Chu was never assigned to be the CEO, besides they didn't know Chu at all actually. In fact, Hubei Television didn't even have a job titled CEO.[10] Oct 29th 2012 Chu announced her comeback.[11]

In June 2005, Chu married with a man 14 years younger. In November 2009, Chu admitted that her marriage with her ex-husband Simon only lasted briefly. Chu later married to Yu-shuanglun on July 6, 2011. Together they have a boy named Qi-Rong.
