Christopher Magiera

Christopher Magiera (born 30 May 1983) is an American operatic tenor. Born in Illinois, Mr. Magiera was an undergraduate student at Wake Forest University and a graduate student at the Peabody Conservatory and the Yale School of Music. He attended the Bayerische Staatsoper opernstudio and was fest at the Semperoper in Dresden.

Career

Mr. Magiera made his debut as Don Jose in 2014 with the Vancouver Opera, Canada.[1] He has also worked in Italy, Germany and the United States in the past seasons.

Christopher formerly performed internationally as a baritone, singing nearly two hundred performances throughout the world. He was seen in the title roles of Eugene Onegin, Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia) and Don Giovanni; as well as in the roles of Conte Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Valentin (Faust), Marcello (La bohème), Papageno (Die Zauberflöte), Robert (Iolanta), The Captain (The Death of Klinghoffer) and Zurga (The Pearl Fishers), among others. He has performed on opera stages in the United States, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom. In concert he has performed at the Knowlton Festival of the Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal and with the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra of Ankara, Turkey, among others. Mr. Magiera has performed with conductors such as Kent Nagano, Riccardo Frizza, Asher Fisch, Vladimir Jurowski, Emmanuel Villaume, Stephen Lord, Pier Giorgio Morandi and Frederic Chaslin.[2]

Awards

Christopher has received awards from numerous competitions and organizations throughout his career, including the 2010 Grand Prize of the Sullivan Foundation. He was a 2008 National Grand Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera’s National Council Auditions and a finalist in Placido Domingo’s Operalia World Opera Competition. He has also received many other awards including those from the Jensen Foundation, Gerda Lissner International Vocal Competition, Liederkranz Foundation, Bel Canto Foundation, the Licia Albanese Puccini Foundation. , Giulio Gari Foundation and a 2014 Grant from the The Anna Sosenko Assist Trust Fund.
