Christoffer 'Dr Chris' van Tulleken (born 18 August 1978)[1] is a British infectious diseases doctor and TV presenter.[2][3] He is best known for presenting the BAFTA winning[4] CBBC series “Operation Ouch!” alongside his identical twin brother Alexander 'Dr Xand' van Tulleken.[5][6]

Education

Van Tulleken was educated at King's College School,[7] an independent school for boys in Wimbledon, in South West London, followed by St Peter's College at the University of Oxford,[7] where he obtained his medical degree in 2002.[8] He is currently an MRC Clinical Research Fellow at UCL in the lab of Greg Towers.[9]

Life and career

Van Tulleken presented Channel 4's “Medicine Men go Wild” with his brother Xand,[10] and BBC Two's “Trust Me, I'm A Doctor” alongside Michael Mosley.[11] He was the expedition doctor for BBC Two's “Operation Iceberg”,[12] and has appeared in “Top Dogs: Adventures in War, Sea and Ice” (BBC 2),[13] “Holiday Hit Squad” (BBC One),[14] “Museum of Life” (BBC Two),[15] “The Secret Life of Twins” (BBC One),[16] as well as Celebrity Mastermind and The Wright Stuff.[17] Van Tulleken was also doctor to a team lead by Bruce Parry which recreated the 1911 race to the South Pole in the BBC documentary “Blizzard: Race to the Pole”.[18] He has also presented “What's The Right Diet For You? A Horizon Special”.[19][20]

Van Tulleken was named as an emerging British talent in 'The Brit List 2013' by ShortList magazine.[21]

Humanitarian Aid

Van Tulleken is a patron of the medical aid organisation Medical Emergency Relief International (Merlin)[22][23] and reported for BBC Two in the aftermath of Cyclone Nargis, Burma, in 2008.[24]
