Christina Tosi
Christina Tosi is the chef and co-owner of Momofuku Milk Bar, an organization that consists of a central bakery that produces baked goods daily for five retail outlets in New York City[1] and a sixth location in Toronto, Canada.[2] The central bakery also provide baked goods for other restaurants in the Momofuku group and to other individuals by shipping internationally.[3] Tosi is also a cookbook author[4] and teacher.[5][6] Tosi will join the judging panel of MasterChef beginning with its sixth season, which premieres May 20, 2015.[7]
Background
Tosi was born in Ohio and raised primarily in Springfield, Virginia.[8] After studying to become an electrical engineer for a year at the University of Virginia,[8] she spent time in Florence to see if she wanted to be a translator. Eventually, she graduated from James Madison University.[8] After graduating, she moved to New York and enrolled in the French Culinary Institute’s pastry arts program.[1] Her first jobs in the kitchens of New York were at Bouley and wd~50.[9]
Starting at Momofuku
David Chang, the owner of Momofuku, originally employed Tosi to write his food safety plan. He was so impressed with her that he hired her to be his pastry chef. There were no desserts on the menu when she came on board.[1] She became the founder of the dessert program, Momofuku-Milk Bar,[8] at the Momofuku restaurant group.[10]
Cookbooks
Her recipes are featured in her cookbook called Momofuku Milk Bar (ISBN 9780307720498).[4] Milk Bar Life (ISBN 9780770435103), Tosi's second book was published by Clarkson Potter in April 2015.[11] her new book also includes behind the scenes stories at the Milk Bar.
Awards
- 2012 recipient of the James Beard Rising Star Chef award[10]
