Christian Longo

Christian Longo (born January 23, 1974) is a convicted murderer from the U.S. state of Oregon.[1][2] In January 2002 Longo was put on the list of the FBI Ten Most Wanted Fugitives.

Murder

Longo became wanted in the murder of his wife and children in Oregon after the body of his four-year-old son was found on December 19, 2001, floating several feet from shore in the Lint Slough, a waterway off the Pacific Ocean, in Waldport, Oregon. On December 22, 2001, searching the same area where his son's body had been found, divers located the body of his three-year-old daughter. The bodies of Longo's wife and two-year-old daughter were found five days later. After fleeing the United States, Longo was recognized in Cancún on December 27, 2001, at a hotel. The next day, he was charged in Lincoln County, Oregon, with multiple counts of Aggravated Murder and Unlawful Flight, by a federal arrest warrant issued in the United States District Court for the District of Oregon. Longo left the hotel on January 7, 2002, and was captured six days later without incident in the small town of Tulum, Quintana Roo, about 60 miles south of Cancún. He was taken into U.S. custody at the Houston, Texas, airport January 14, 2002.[3] Longo was sentenced to death in 2003.[4]

Film

Longo is portrayed by James Franco in the film True Story based on the memoir by journalist Michael Finkel. The film was released in theaters on April 17, 2015.[5]

Organ donation

In 2009, Longo requested to donate to a friend in need. After his request was denied, he founded G.A.V.E. (www.gavelife.org) to raise awareness for organ donation from prisoners and other "high risk" people. In 2011, the New York Times published an Op-Ed piece by Longo, titled "Giving Life After Death Row", in which he accepts responsibility for his crimes and his wish to donate his organs. In 2014, Longo published "Lethal Rejection".
