The Christian Centre, Nottingham is a church located in Nottingham in England. It is one of the UK's larger churches, with around 1,400 people actively involved. The Christian Centre is a Pentecostal church affiliated to the Assemblies of God.
History
The Christian Centre began as a small gathering of Christians meeting in a house in 1928 in the Lace Market. It quickly became a small church, growing steadily over the following decades and has been based at its current premises on Talbot Street since the 1970s. In September 2013, David Shearman finished as the Senior Leader of the Christian Centre after an amazing 45 years of faithful service.
Today
Today, the church represents a wide range of ages, cultures and backgrounds and continues to meet on Talbot Street on Sunday at 9am, 11.15am, 5pm and 7pm. Malcolm and Lynette Baxter are the Senior Leaders, a position they have held since September 2013.
The church has embarked on a multi-million pound project to build a new home, as its current building is at capacity, and multiple Sunday services must be run. The Christian Centre has achieved planning permission for a new building incorporating a 1600-seat auditorium building on land directly opposite its current site on the site of the former St. Matthew's Church, Talbot Street. The building will also feature a cafe, terrace, function rooms and prayer room with views across the Nottingham skyline.
Ministries
The church has an extensive social responsibility programme, administered by charity 58i intended to reach the disadvantaged in the city and beyond through a number of different projects. Its members are also involved in international development work overseas, including support for The King's Village, a school and medical centre in Northern Ghana.
A wide range of activities run from the Christian Centre, including the Alpha Course, Children's ministry, Destiny for 13-18's, Impact for 18-25's and students and CAMEO for seniors.
Destiny
Destiny is the Christian Centre's youth group running on a Friday evening, and catering for anybody aged 13–18. Until 13 February 2010, they were based in the basement of a former car dealership, immediately across the road from the Christian Centre's main building. They now use the main hall due to health and safety concerns about the old venue. They have also released an EP of six songs that the members of the band have written themselves in December 2010.
CTZN
CTZN is the students and 18-30s ministry at the Christian Centre. They run life groups for anyone in the age bracket, and hold larger events every term. CTZN Young Adults meet at the Christian Centre- City Campus on Tuesday evenings at 7:30pm, and CTZN Life Groups run on alternate weeks across the city.
58i
58i is a charity run through the Christian Centre. They take their name from the Book of Isaiah, chapter 58:[1]
"This is the kind of fast day I'm after: to break the chains of injustice, get rid of exploitation in the workplace, free the oppressed, cancel debts. What I'm interested in seeing you do is: sharing your food with the hungry, inviting the homeless poor into your homes, putting clothes on the shivering ill-clad, being available to your own families. Do this and the lights will turn on, and your lives will turn around at once."— Isaiah 58:6-7 (MSG)
