Christel House Academy

Christel House Academy is a school located in Indianapolis, Indiana. It was founded in 2002 and serves students in elementary, middle and high school. Christel House Academy is a charter school, authorized by the Mayor of Indianapolis. Christel House Academy is a part of the Christel House International network of schools. CHI is a global nonprofit organization with schools around the world educating youths living in poverty.

Due to community demands, Christel House Academy petitioned the City of Indianapolis to expand and add a drop out recovery school-- Christel House DORS, an adult high school working in partnership with Ivy Tech Community College and the Gateway to College network.

In July 2013, the Associated Press reported that Tony Bennett, then the Superintendent of Schools for the state of Indiana, was told in September 2012 that the Christel House Academy had scored a "C" on the states "A" to "F" grading system. Nine days later, a change in the scoring system had moved the schools grade to 3.75, an "A", from its original 2.9.[1]

In September 2013, after receiving much attention in the media, an independent, bi-partisan investigation conducted by the Indiana Legislature concluded that the grade changes issued to Christel House Academy were 'consistently applied' across the state to many other schools. [2]
