Chris Olsen
Chris Olsen (1983) is a jazz pianist, composer, poet, and vocalist. Currently a member of the fusion group Time in Motion (or TIM), and former member of South Dakota based funk ensemble Greenhouse.
Born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, he began piano at age 4, studied classical piano at the University of Sioux Falls, and moved to the Boulder, Colorado in 2005 studying under the instruction of Art Lande. He made the first record of his own compositions in 2006 at Immersive Studios utilizing a grand piano. Chris later switched gears to incorporate a Fender Rhodes and various other electronic keyboards coupled with various effects and often looping tones and noises from the keyboard over his jazz-based compositions.
In 2002 he recorded and performed with the Sioux Falls area group Greenhouse. Chris now lives in Boulder, Colorado and tours actively with the Fusion-trio Time in Motion with bandmates Dan Pearson on alto/barry/and tenor saxophone along with local Boulder drum instructor Steve Saviano.
The trio's performances involve highly original numbers, make extensive use of unique altered-meter time signatures placing emphasis on Saviano's rhythmic prowess; most notably the original composition "Triptoeing Through the Tulips" found on the bands 2008 LP release "Heal thy Life" which was recorded at Colorado Sound Studios.
