Christapher "Chris" Johnson (born April 29, 1990) is an American professional basketball player who currently plays for the Utah Jazz of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the University of Dayton.
College career
In his freshman season at the University of Dayton, Johnson played 34 games, averaging 6.3 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.[1]
In his sophomore season, he played 36 games, averaging 11.9 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.[1]
In his junior season, he played 36 games (all starts), averaging 11.9 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. He led the Flyers in steals with 31 (.86 spg), free throw percentage (.830) and three-pointers made with 77. He finished second on the team in scoring, rebounds and offensive rebounds with 76. He also tied for second on the team in blocks with 14 and ranked third in three-point percentage (.379). He scored in double-figures in 24 of the Flyers' 36 games and led the Flyers in scoring 13 times. He also recorded four double-doubles for the season.[2]
In his senior season, he was his team’s co-MVP as he helped lead the Flyers to a 20-13 record and a third straight trip to the NIT. He was at his best against power conference competition: 20 points against Alabama, 18 against Minnesota, 16 against Seton Hall and Ole Miss, 12 against Wake Forest. In 32 games, he averaged 12.4 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game.[3]
Professional career
2012–13 season
After going undrafted in the 2012 NBA draft, Johnson joined the Philadelphia 76ers for the 2012 NBA Summer League. In September 2012, he signed with the Los Angeles Clippers. However, he was later waived by the Clippers on October 7, 2012.[4][5] Two days later, he signed with the Orlando Magic.[6] However, he was also waived by the Magic on October 27, 2012.[7]
On November 2, 2012, he was selected by the Rio Grande Valley Vipers with the 7th overall pick in the 2012 NBA D-League draft.[8] On January 23, 2013, he signed a 10-day contract with the Memphis Grizzlies.[9] He made his NBA debut the same day in a win over the Los Angeles Lakers.[10] On February 3, 2013, he signed a second 10-day contract with the Grizzlies.[11] On February 20, 2013, he was re-acquired by the Vipers.[12]
2013–14 season
In July 2013, Johnson joined the NBA D-League Select Team for the 2013 NBA Summer League.[13] In September 2013, he signed with the Brooklyn Nets.[14] He was later waived by the Nets on October 26, 2013.[15]
In November 2013, he was re-acquired by the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. On January 17, 2014, he signed a 10-day contract with the Boston Celtics.[16] On January 21, 2014, he made his Celtics debut, recording 11 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal in a 86-93 loss to the Miami Heat.[17][18] On January 28, 2014, he signed a second 10-day contract with the Celtics.[19] On February 3, 2014, he was named to the Prospects All-Star roster for the 2014 NBA D-League All-Star Game.[20] On February 7, 2014, he signed a multi-year deal with the Celtics.[21]
2014–15 season
In July 2014, Johnson joined the Boston Celtics for the 2014 NBA Summer League.[22] On September 25, 2014, he was waived by the Celtics.[23] On September 29, 2014, he signed with the Philadelphia 76ers.[24] On November 15, 2014, he was waived by the 76ers.[25] On December 15, 2014, he was reacquired by the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.[26] On January 28, 2015, he signed a 10-day contract with the Utah Jazz.[27] On February 7, after his contract expired, the Jazz decided to not re-sign him,[28] and he returned to Rio Grande Valley on February 23.[29] On March 6, 2015, he signed a 10-day contract with the Milwaukee Bucks.[30] On March 16, he signed a second 10-day contract with the Bucks.[31] On March 26, after the expiration of his second 10-day contract with the Bucks, he signed a multi-year contract with the Utah Jazz.[32]

Johnson is the son of Nicole Johnson, and has two siblings, Ty’onna and Maurice.[33]
