Christopher Livingstone Eubank, Jr. (born 18 September 1989)[1] is a British professional boxer, and the son of the former world boxing champion Chris Eubank. He is the current interim WBA Middleweight champion, and as of March 2015 is ranked by BoxRec as the #1 middleweight boxer in the UK and #13 in the world.
Biography
Eubank was born in Hove, Sussex, Great Britain, to father Christopher Livingston Eubank and mother Karron Suzanne Stephen Martin.[2] Eubank studied at Brighton College as a pupil. Chris Eubank Jr. also featured alongside his father in a reality TV series At Home with the Eubanks.[3] At the age of 16 Eubank along with his brother Sebastian moved to America to live with a guardian Irene Hutton. It was explained by their mother Karron as "mere paperwork" and done to enable them to gain dual citizenship without the need to marry, and to enhance their prospects of sporting careers.[4]
Boxing career
Amateur career
Eubank began his amateur career in 2007. With the winning of his sixth amateur fight, he became the Amateur Golden Glove Champion for the State of Nevada in his weight division of 165 lbs. With his eighth amateur fight he became the Amateur Golden Glove Champion for the Western States of the United States in his weight division. Eubank was 1–1 in the 2008 National Golden Gloves.[5]
Professional career
After a successful amateur career which saw Eubank win the Nevada Golden Gloves, Eubank quickly turned professional and signed with promoter Mick Hennessy.[6] He is currently mentored by trainer Ronnie Davies.[7] Chris Eubank Jr lost his unbeaten record as he lost a split decision to Billy Joe Saunders in London on Saturday 29th Nov 2014. Eubank Jr and Saunders, both 25, went the distance in a nip-and-tuck bout at ExCel, with Saunders coming out a 115-114, 115-113 and 113-116 winner. Chris Eubank Jr made a stirring return to the ring on Saturday 28th Feb at the O2 Arena in London. He scored a 12th-round TKO win over Dmitry Chudinov. Eubank's efforts earned him the WBA interim title.
