Chok Chai (Thai: โชคชัย) is a district (Amphoe) in Nakhon Ratchasima Province, northeastern Thailand.

History

The district was originally named Kra Thok (กระโทก). Due to the old name was not smooth, the government renamed to be Chok Chai (meaning victory in English) in 1945.[1] The name was chosen to commemorate the victory of King Taksin the Great over the warlord of Phimai after the fall of Ayutthaya.

Geography

Neighboring districts are (from the north clockwise) Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima Chaloem Phra Kiat, Nong Bun Mak, Khon Buri and Pak Thong Chai.

Administration

The district is subdivided into 10 subdistricts (tambon), which are further subdivided into 128 villages (muban). There are three subdistrict municipalities (thesaban tambon) within the district - Chok Chai covering parts of the tambon Chok Chai and Krathok, Dan Kwian covering parts of tambon Dan Kwian and Tha Ang and Tha Yiam covering the whole tambon Tha Yiam.
