Chinguacousy Secondary School i/tʃɪŋˈkuːzi/ founded in 1972, is a high school located in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. Since 2000, the school's enrollment has expanded with the development of the surrounding area. The school sports teams and athletic programs have won a number of OFSAA championships; wrestling (1991, 1992, 1993, 1995), curling (1996, 1998), and rugby (1982). Chinguacousy became competitive in basketball and has won several titles since 2000. Additionally, Chinguacousy won the Canada First National Robotics Championship in 1998, while teamed with Mayfield Secondary School and Spar Aerospace. In 2011, the Junior Boys Cross Country team won the ROPSSAA Championship for the first time since 1997. Chinguacousy currently has a SciTech Program running.They also have 4 vex robotics team. They recently won 2 Energy Awards,an Excellence Award, Tournament Champion and Tournament Finalist, in the Vex Robotics Competition
SciTech Program
The school recently opened a Science and Technology program that focuses on the application of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Using the STEM process students take an innovative approach to solving problems and designing new technologies. With the aid of technologically focused classrooms and modern learning environments students can learn to appreciate and use technology in a productive and creative manner. The program focuses on giving students the tools to enter the modern workplace prepared by delving into software learning, design and development. With this skills current Sci-Tech students have become well known in the academic realm as highly inventive and creative.
Robotics
With the recent establishment of the Sci-Tech program Chingbotics, a robotics club has begun in the school which hosts over 150 members. Many participate in the First Robotics Challenge or VEX robotics competition. Currently Chinguacousy Robotics has several teams including Team 3560A, 3560C, 3560W, 3560X, 3560Y, and 3560Z. Most of these teams have traveled to the 2014 Ontario Provincial Competition for VEX robotics. Winning over 15 awards the teams have become large players in the VEX robotics scene with Team 3560Z qualifying to go to the VEX Robotics World Championship in Anaheim, California in April 2014. They were their division champions and came first at the tournament.
Sports Success
In 2011, the Junior Boys Cross Country team won the ROPSSAA Championship for the first time since 1997. Additionally, they traveled to Ottawa to participate in the provincial championships called OFSAA and ranking in the Top 10 of the best teams for that year in Ontario.
