Chex Quest 3

Chex Quest 3 is a freeware first-person shooter game. It is the sequel to Chex Quest 2. The game has five levels all set on the Planet Ralston (Ralston was the owner of the Chex brand when Chex Quest's development started). Upon being released for download on the internet, it received fairly positive reviews.

Plot

Set ten years after the events of the first two Chex Quest games, the Flemoids, an evil race of cereal-eating monsters from another dimension, have invaded the planet Ralston. The Chex Warrior has to zorch all the Flemoids back to their own dimension.

Development

Originally Chex Quest was a promotional tool. Digital Cafe was hired by Ralston, who used to own Chex, to boost sales. When the sales of Chex Cereal boxes did boost, Digital Cafe released a level extension, Chex Quest 2, on ChexQuest.com.

But it wasn't until ten years later before Charles Jacobi, who was an artist for the first 2 games, released Chex Quest 3 via free download on the web. The full exe included a slightly revised Chex Quest, and a majorly revised Chex Quest 2, all within the same playable file, which is overall just a modification of ZDoom.

Rather than require the user to download ZDoom (the source port that Chex Quest 3 was created with), Charles got help from Scott Holman to supply the source port with the Chex Quest 3 download.

Part of what kept Charles going was a fan project titled "The Ultimate Chex Quest". The idea that someone else was willing to make a fan game of Chex Quest helped to inspire Jacobi to push forward and finish the project.
