Chestnut Grove Academy

Chestnut Grove Academy was formed, as Chestnut Grove School, in September 1986 by the amalgamation of Henry Thornton Grammar School (named for Henry Thornton (1760-1815) a local MP and economist) and Hydeburn School.[1] It is a partially selective secondary school with academy status in Balham, London, England. It selects 40% of its pupils for places based on aptitude in art and design and general ability. It was the first Arts College in the United Kingdom.[2] In their March 2008 inspection, Ofsted rated the school as Grade 1 Outstanding, the highest possible designation.[3]
