Chestnut Canoe Company

Chestnut Canoe Company was established in Fredericton in the Canadian province of New Brunswick at the end of the 19th century. Along with the Old Town Canoe Company in Maine, U.S., it became one of the pre-eminent producers of wood-and-canvas canoes. The company closed in 1979.

American President Teddy Roosevelt purchased Chestnut canoes for a South American expedition. Wood-and-canvas canoes have been targeted for revival in recent years, spurred in part by the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association.[1]
