Chennithala is a village in Mavelikkara taluk of Alleppey district, Kerala, South India. This village consists mainly of paddy fields and coconut groves. Chennithala is a village where Hindus, Christians and Muslims live. There are many ancient Hindu temples. Christians of all denominations have their place of worship in Chennithala. The educational institutions of the area include Mahatma Higher Secondary School, Mahatma Boys high school, Mahatma Girls high school, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya and a few lower and upper primary schools run by the state government.

Thripperumthura Sree Mahadeva temple

Thripperumthura Sree Mahadevar temple, Ayyakkasheril Sree Mahadevar Temple, Karazhma Devi temple, Chala Sree Mahadevar temple, Puthuvila Bhagavathi temple, Valiyamadom Devi temple, Kannannoor Devi temple and Irampaman Sree Subrammania swamy temple are major temples of this village.

St. George Orthodox Valiyapally, St. George Horeb Jacobite Syrian Church, Catholic church, CSI church, Marthoma church and there are few more Christian churches are also located in Chennithala.

Chennithala also has a boat (Palliodam), which participates in the Aaranmula Utrattathi Vallam Kalli which is held in Aaranmula during the Onam season. It is also one of the many tourist attractions of this village.

Valiya perumpumpuzha bridge connects it to Thattarampalam in south of chennithala. Achankovil River flows through Chennithala.
Chennithala village is 6 km north from Mavelikkara, 4 km from Mannar to south, 9 km from Harippad (towards east)and 12 km from Chengannur (towards West)Town. The nearest railway station is Mavelikara and then Harippad.

Notable churches

St. George Orthodox Valiyapally or Chennithala valliyapally is the most ancient and popular church in Chennithala; it is about 160 years old. The church is one of biggest and oldest churches all over Kerala. The Indian orthodox church is the religious in charge of the church. It was dedicated by the HH Parumala Saint Gregorius Thirumeni, saint of the century. All most all churches evolved from the Chennithala valiyapally, Mother of all chennithla churches.

Chennithal is the nearest place from Parumala Seminary Church, the tomb of the great paumala Saint Gregorius Thirumeni. It is also famous for the large number of churches and temples in Kerala.

Memorial School

Sri.Chennithala Chellappan Pillai Memorial Cultural School is conducting music class, dance class and Chenda training at Chennithala at the Smaraka Samithi.

Mahadeva Kuthiyotta Samathi is the only kuthiyotta samathi in Chennithala. Kuthiyottam is mainly related to Chettikulangara temple.
