Chazhoor (Chazhur) (Malayalam : ചാഴൂര്‍) is a village, and popularly known as Chazhur village in Thrissur Taluk of Thrissur district in the state of Kerala, India.^[1] Chazhoor is a region with hindu majority(50)closely followes by muslins(42) with tiny amount of catholics(8)

Demographics

As of 2001 India census, Chazhoor had a population of 6541 with 3022 males and 3519 females.^[1]

History

Chazhoor village holds the ancient palace of Chazhoor (Chazur) kovilakom. This is the root (moola thavazhi)of the Cochin royal family, in Ernakulam district (Perumpadappu swaroopam). Reference – Genealogy of Cochin Royal Family.

The Naalukettu (Kerala style of joint family house] of Chazhoor royal family is in this village.

Chazhur Pazhayannur Bhagavathy temple is in this village, famous as an important Deity of Perumpadappu Swaroopam. Reference- Kingdom of Cochin

Politics

Chazhoor panchayat is part of Thrissur Parliament constituency and Nattika Legislative constituency. The current MP is C N Jayadevan and MLA is Geetha Gopi.
