Chavara is a village in Kollam district, Kerala, India .It is a part of Quilon Lok Sabha constituency.[1] The MLA of the constituency is currently Mr. Shibu Baby John.

Location and tourism

Chavara is situated on the shores of the Arabian sea and the major freshwater lake in Kerala, Ashtamudi flows through chavara. Chavara is a place blessed with lakes and laggoons like Sasthamkota lake.Popular tourist destinations are St Andrew's Church, Kovilthottam, Kovilthottam beach and lighthouse and area around Ashtamudi lake.[2]

Industries

The village has a high supply of mineral sand, mainly titanium in its beaches. For the processing of titanium , India's first titanium sponge plant (TSP) was developed by KMML ( Kerala Minerals and metals Ltd) here, inaugurated in 2011 by the then Defence Minister of India, AK Antony . IRE (Indian Rare Earths Ltd) is another public sector unit located in Chavara.[3]
