Chaturbhuj Temple, Orchha

Chaturbhuj Temple (Devanagri: चतुर्भुज मंदिर), dedicated to Vishnu, is situated at Orchha in Madhya Pradesh, India. The name Chaturbhuj is derived from the Sanskrit words चतु: = four and भुजा = arms, which literally means one who has four arms; and refers to Vishnu.

The temple was constructed by the Bundela Rajputs of the kingdom of Orchha.[1] Its construction was begun by Madhukar Shah[2] and completed by his son, Vir Singh Deo[3] in the early 17th century. The Chaturbhuj temple is imposing with tall spires built atop a high platform. Its exterior is richly ornamented with lotus symbols. The building displays a blend of religious and secular styles taken from temple and fort architecture. The temple faces east and is located on an axis with the nearby Ram Mandir.[4]
