History
Charles Michael Yim founded Chatterfly in June 2010.[1][4] The company launched in August 2011.[4] Yim became the company’s chairman and CEO.[1]
Chatterfly launched as a digital version of the paper punch card.[4] It offered a complete loyalty rewards program via smartphone applications for Android and iPhone.[4]
Chatterfly received $1 million in seed funding in February 2011.[1] The company launched its beta version in March 2011. The full version was released in August 2011.[4][7]
In September 2011, Chatterfly participated in the TC Disrupt SF 2011 Startup Alley.[1][8]
The mom-oriented daily deals site Plum District acquired Chatterfly in December 2011.[1][3] Plum District was interested in the startup’s neighborhood rewards program technology.[3][5]
Chatterfly was discontinued on November 1, 2012.[6]

Chatterfly is a points-based loyalty rewards program.[1] In interviews, its founders describe the service as a frequent flyer program for local businesses.[2]
The smartphone app-based platform rewards customers for making purchases, completing activities, and sharing the business on social networks.[2][3] Smartphone users can earn points through purchases, QR codes, in-store promotions, social media, and more.[2][4]
Every action earns points. Customers can redeem their points at either local businesses or at Chatterfly itself.[4]
Businesses access the service via a web portal with analytics and customer monitoring.[7]
Founder
Charles Michael Yim founded Chatterfly in June 2010.[1][4] Yim is a serial entrepreneur who previously founded a startup in the consumer electronics industry. He also previously worked for Fortify Software in business development and for Cintas Corporation.
Awards & recognition
Chatterfly was featured in a KRON 4 interview for the San Francisco Bay area.[2]
Chatterfly has also appeared at the San Mateo Chamber of Commerce Business Expo and the TC Disrupt SF 2011 Startup Alley.[1][8][9]
