Chatham Grammar School for Girls ("CGSG") is an all-girls grammar school with academy status in Medway in southeast England.

Admissions

There are approximately 1000 pupils currently on roll, including 240 in the mixed sixth form, and 64 teaching staff, however, the number of pupils has dropped over the last three years so the school will have around 900 pupils at the beginning of September 2010. The current Headmistress of the school is Mrs Christine Probin as of September 2010, taking over from Mr David Gundry.

It is situated on Rainham Road (A2), it is just inside the parish of St Augustine, Gillingham. Every Christmas, the school has a Christmas service in the St Augustine Church which is just across the road from the school.

History

The school was opened in January 1907, by Miss Constance Wakeman. The centenary was celebrated in 2006-2007 by the release of 1000 balloons and a school fete, however, there were many over smaller events all throughout the year from September 2006 to The end of June 2007. The school is very proud of its history, and photographs of all the headteachers are displayed within the school hall.

Academic performance

The school has been rated Outstanding by Ofsted. In 2008, the school's Spanish Department won 'Spanish School of the Year' from the UK Spanish Embassy. The school also has an excellent GCSE and A-Level results record, in particular within its English Department, which consistently has achieved some of the best results in the country.
