Charlton Park, Wiltshire

Charlton Park House

Charlton Park is an estate in Wiltshire, England, 2 miles (3.2 km) northeast of the town of Malmesbury. Charlton Park House is a Grade I listed building. [1]

The estate has been owned by the Earls of Suffolk since the Reformation. It was formerly the land on which Malmesbury Abbey was built. The house was finished in 1607, having been built for Thomas Howard, 1st Earl of Suffolk, and his wife.[2]

The house was converted into apartments in 1975. The current Earl Michael Howard, 21st Earl of Suffolk owns the park and the surrounding agricultural estate. [3] The park hosts corporate events and the Womad Charlton Park festival.[4]

The small village of Charlton is immediately to the east of the estate. The civil parish of Charlton encompasses the village and the estate.
