Charlotte Adams

Charlotte Adams (born 1859) was an Australian mountain climber. She became the first woman of European descent to climb to the peak of Mount Kosciuszko in February 1881, aged 21.[1]

Biography

Adams was born in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia in 1859 to parents Edward Pattern Adams and Barbara Adams (née Bethune). In February 1881, Adams accompanied her father on a surveying trip and became the first European woman to climb to the peak of Mount Kosciuszko.[1]

Legacy

The village of Charlotte Pass, New South Wales is named after her.
