Charles Musser

Charles Musser (born 16 January 1951) is Professor of Film and American Studies at Yale University. He is a film historian and documentary film maker who has "added a great deal to our knowledge of early cinema with his writings and his filmmaking."[1]

He won several awards for his book The Emergence of Cinema: The American Screen to 1907, including the Theatre Library Association Award.[2] His research has focused on such topics as Edwin S. Porter, Oscar Micheaux, and the Edison Studios, and his films include An American Potter and Before the Nickelodeon: The Early Cinema of Edwin S. Porter.[3]
