Channel NewsAsia Singapore (abbreviated CNA) Singapore was established in March 1999 by MediaCorp, and is a Singaporean English language Asian cable television news agency and news channel. Positioned to “Understand Asia”, it reports on global developments with Asian perspectives. Channel NewsAsia brings viewers not only the latest news but also the stories behind the headlines. Based in Singapore, it has correspondents in major Asian cities and key Western ones, including New York City, Sydney, London and Dubai.
Channel NewsAsia (International), was launched in September 2000. It is now viewed in 25 territories across Asia with its satellite footprint stretching across the Middle East, South Asia, Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia and Australia.
Channel NewsAsia's other key business is the production of news and current affairs content in four languages, English, Malay, Mandarin Chinese and Tamil. This content is produced for MediaCorp's television and online platforms, such as mass entertainment Channels 5, 8, U, Suria and Vasantham. MediaCorp is Singapore’s leading media company with the most complete range of platforms, spanning television, radio, newspapers, magazines, movies, digital and out-of-home media.
Programmes and presenters
Channel NewsAsia is an international news channel focusing primarily on Asian news, information and current affairs. Each of its news bulletins, called News Now, which runs in the day, Primetime World, and News Pulse which airs during late night hours after primetime programming, run for half-hour, starting at the top of the hour except for First Look Asia, the breakfast show which runs for three consecutive hours and midday show Asia Connect, Primetime Asia and Singapore Tonight, which run for one hour each. The bottom of the hour features documentaries, newsbites and also reruns of discussion shows like "Between the Lines" and "Talking Point". The channel now airs programmes 24 hours a day with some programmes, largely business reports, broadcast from the channel's new studios at the Marina Bay Financial Centre.
Channel NewsAsia also produces news and current affairs programmes for MediaCorp Channel 5, Channel 8, U, Suria and Vasantham.
