Changsha WES Academy is an international kindergarten and elementary school located in Changsha, Hunan Province, People's Republic of China.
Changsha WES Academy (CWA) is the first English-speaking international school in Hunan Province to be approved by the Ministry of Education as an international school.
CWA was established by the Changsha Economic and Technical Development Zone Administrative Council (CETZAC) in co-operation with China-Singapore SIP International Education Services Co. Ltd. (CSIES) and Worldwide Education Services Group Pte. Ltd. (WES) to provide an international education for the children of expatriate and SAR families living and working in the area.
CWA started classes on 1 September 2010 with just four children aged 7 to 9. On 14 February 2011 the Early Years Programme started with ten children aged 3 to 5. As the number of foreign families relocating to the Changsha area is increasing, we anticipate that the school will continue to grow.
Curriculum
The school follows an inquiry based curriculum, is a member of the Council of International Schools (CIS), and is an IB World School authorised by the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) to offer the Primary Years Programme (PYP). The school will start a middle school in August 2014. For more information about the IBO and its programmes, please visit <www.ibo.org>
Facilities
On 14 February 2011, the school moved to its brand new, purpose-built campus. In addition to spacious classrooms, there are also specialty facilities including art rooms, a broadcasting studio, children’s play areas, computer labs, dining room, library/media centres, music rooms, sports field, sports hall, science labs, theatre, and a teaching kitchen.
