Chandraprabha Aitwal

Chandraprabha Aitwal (born December 24, 1941) is an Indian mountain climber and one of the pioneers of Indian women mountaineers. She was awarded 2009 Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award for Life Time Achievement, given by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.[1] who has climbed peaks like Nanda Devi,Kanchanjunga,Trishuli and Mt. Jaonli. Chandraprabha Aitwal is respected in her state of birth and among mountaineers.[2]

Early life and background

Aitwal grew up in Dharchula in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand.[2]

Career

Over the years she has summitted a number of peaks, including Nanda Devi peak in 1981 and She was also part of IMF’s sponsored Mount Everest campaign in 1984.[2] In August 2009, at the age of 68 years, she sumitted Mount Srikantha in the Garhwal Himalaya, which is at an elevation of 6,133 m, for the second time in her career as part of an all-women expedition of the Indian Mountaineering Federation (IMF).[3]
