Chanchamayu (Quechua chanchay to walk and leap about, to walk quickly and confused, chancha chancha to walk quickly and irregularly, shancha a kind of bird, mayu river,[1][2] hispaniciced spelling Chanchamayo) is a river in the Junín Region in Peru. It originates in the Waytapallana mountain range where it is named Tulumayu. Chanchamayu flows along the town La Merced which is also called Chanchamayu. At the confluence of the rivers Chanchamayu and Pawkartampu the river receives the name Perené River.[3]
