Champel is a neighborhood in the city of Geneva, Switzerland.

It is popularly considered as a posh, high class neighbourhood due to its numerous parks and natural spaces, luxurious apartments and proximity to the city center. In practice, the residences mostly consist of mid-range to high scale apartments and very few budget residences, with the only notable exception of the Cité Universitaire (French: university city), a hostel-like complex for Geneva's students.

Geography

Champel is in close proximity with Route de Florissant, which like Champel is an exclusive neighbourhood, bounded by the neighborhood of Eaux-Vives to the north, the municipality of Veyrier to the east, the municipality of Carouge to the south and the city center to the west, occupying an area of approximately 1.9 km².

Sights

Le plateau de Champel (the plane of Champel) is the center of the neighborhood. Le parc Bertrand is a 27.4-acre (111,000 m2) park, featuring a former primary school (which is now a day-care centre), fenced dog park, playground and wading pool for children. The neo-gothic Tour-de-Champel (tower of Champel) on the edge of the cliffs overlooking the Arve is a scenic view.
