Chakrian

Coordinates: 32°26′54″N 73°52′57″E / 32.44838°N 73.882499°E Chakrian is a village with a population of around 10,000 in union council Langay, (near Mangowall) in Gujrat District, Pakistan. Chakrian is situated 23 kilometers away from Gujrat towards the West. Historically, this village was named after Sardar Chakar Singhan, an influential Sikh Sardar. The Sufi saint Shah Sharif came to the village in the 17th century and converted all the villagers to Islam.

Clans

Most of the people belong to Waraich Clan , a warrior ethnic clan of the Jatt people of India and Pakistan who are descendants of Indo-Scythian tribes. According to Sir Lepal Griffin, the tribe migrated to the Punjab during the reign of Mohammad Ghazni and settled in Gujrat, in present day Pakistan.[1] Some people belong to Kharal, Cheema, Sahi and Chatta Clan. About 99% people of village are Muslims, about 1% are Ahmadi Muslims.

General Elections, 2002

During these elections, former Prime Minister of Pakistan Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain won elections defeating Ahmad Mukhtar for NA-105 constituency.[2] At village level, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain won with a majority of 500 votes. For PP-110, former Chief Minister of Punjab Chaudhry Pervez Elahi won election.[3] Chaudhry Pervez Elahi won with a majority of 400 votes at village level.

General Election, 2008

In general elections, the village Ahmad Mukhtar won the election.[4] In Punjab Assembly, village was represented by Chaudhry Moonis Elahi. At village level(For NA-105), Ahmad Mukhtar baged 641 votes and Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain got 459 votes.[5] For PP-110, Nasir Mehmood of People's Party got 640 votes while Moonis Elahi could bag only 470 votes.[6]

General Election, 2013

In General Elections 2013 PMLQ representative Chaudhry Pervez Elahi won the constituency "NA105" by a margin of 15000 Votes.[7] For PP-110, Moonis Elahi won by huge margin of 30000.[8] At Village level PMLQ got a lead of 604 Votes over PMLN and PPPP. Former Law Minister Of Punjab, Raja Muhammad Basharat, also won previously from here. It also remain in the consistency of Chaudhry Zahoor Elahi Shaheed.

Former Deputy Mayor of Union Council Langay belongs to Chakrian.
