Centara Grand Hotel is a skyscraper located in Pathum Wan district, Bangkok, Thailand. The building houses a hotel that is part of the Central Group's Centara Hotels and Resorts.

Structure

This new hotel tower is integrated into the CentralWorld shopping centre, which was an expansion of the former World Trade Center. In addition to the hotel's public floors, there are parking floors and extensive convention facilities. This convention center features a 20,000-square-meter convention hall and numerous function rooms. These facilities, on the 22nd level, are easily accessed from the street via a dedicated bank of elevators, are situated in close proximity to the hotel ballroom and meeting rooms allowing the two facilities to be used concurrently. The convention centre opened in July 2007, with one of the first functions being the awards banquet and various other activities of the 2007 Bangkok International Film Festival.

The hotel tower soars high above the podium to take its place as a landmark in the Bangkok skyline. The mass of the podium is a succession of concentric circles layered around the tower shaft. The glass and metal cylinder rises directly from the street to a height of approximately 189 meters. Its architectural expression consists of an arrangement of horizontal banding overlaid onto a strong vertical framework. Dynamism and the play of transparency versus solidity are the hallmarks of the overall design. These elements combine to create a building whose lightness belies its large size of 56 floors. The building is 235m high (771 ft) making it the fourth tallest building in Thailand.
