Cavalier Youth is the fourth full length album from English alternative rock band You Me at Six. The album was released on 27 January 2014 through Virgin Records.[13] The first and lead single, "Lived a Lie" was released on 2 September 2013, The track also featured in the football video game FIFA 14. This was followed up by the second single "Fresh Start Fever" which was released with a music video on 3 December 2013. The album debuted on the UK album chart at number 1 on its first week of sales giving the band their first number 1 album in the UK. Upon its release the album has received positive reviews from critics, with an average score of '66' on the Metacritic website indicating 'generally positive reviews'.

Information

In June 2013, the band announced they would be entering a recording studio at a secret location to record their then upcoming album. On 20 June 2013, vocalist Josh Franceschi announced all lyrics had been written and the band was ready to record the new record. Pre-production subsequently began on 21 June 2013.

In July and August 2013, the band announced they would be recording their album in Los Angeles, California with producer Neal Avron (Fall Out Boy, Linkin Park, Yellowcard). The band also worked closely with music photographer by the alias of GetDeluxe, who filmed the tour diary of the band's Spring Fever Tour with All Time Low and Pierce the Veil. Band members also updated their official Instagram profiles with the progress of the new album.

History

On 2 September 2013, the band announced and premiered the first single to be off the new record, titled 'Lived a Lie'. The album was also revealed to be titled Cavalier Youth. The album would contain 12 tracks, including an interlude track. The music video to "Lived a Lie" was made available to the world on the band's Vevo channel and UK fans could download the new track on iTunes shortly after.

On 28 September 2013, Josh Franceschi announced in concert that Cavalier Youth would be released in January 2014.

On 21 January 2014, the album was leaked online on several torrent sites. A week later, the album was officially out both digitally and in physical copies on 27 January 2014.[13][14] Since then, the album has received overall, generally positive reviews from music magazines and critics. The record is also said to be more of a 'pop rock' genre and relatively "softer and cleaner than before".

The band has completed signings and some live performances where they have been meeting fans around the UK in HMV & FOPP stores to promote the album on 27–31 January 2014. They have played shows in cities such as London and Cardiff and signing only's in Hull and Leeds.

The band went on to announce a headline tour of Europe in support of the album prior to the release playing twenty three shows ending at an already sold out Alexandra Palace in London on 5 April 2014.

Five singles were released from the album: Lived a Lie (which became their highest charting UK single at number 11), Fresh Start Fever (another UK top 40 single), third single Room to Breathe, which charted highly on both the UK and US rock charts, fourth single Cold Night and fifth single Forgive and Forget, released on iTunes on December 2014.
