Cato Corporation is an American retailer of women's fashions and accessories.[3] The Company operates stores that are located throughout the United States, and in a variety of markets ranging from small towns to metropolitan areas. The market cap of Cato Corporation was 905.7 million U.S. dollars as at November 11, 2013.[4]

History

In 1946, the company founder, Wayland Cato, left United Merchants to launch his own business with his son, Wayland Henry Cato, Jr., and Edgar Thomas.[5] The company is headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Products and services

The Cato Corporation (Cato) operates the stores under several names including Cato, Cato Fashions, Cato Plus. There are also two sister stores under the Cato umbrella: It's Fashion and It's Fashion Metro, as well as the newest addition, Versona Accessories. The Company’s stores includes a variety of clothes such as dressy, career, and casual sportswear, dresses, coats, shoes, lingerie, costume jewelry, handbags, men’s wear and lines for kids and newborns. These products are produced by various vendors in accordance with the Company’s specifications, but generally are sold under its private label. For customers' convenience, the company provide the credit service, offering its own credit cards.[6]
