Catherine Grace Godwin (25 December 1798 – 1845) was a poet.[1]
Life
Godwin was born in Glasgow on Christmas Day 1798[2] causing the death of her mother. Her father was Dr. Thomas Garnett who was devastated by the loss of his wife and he died in 1802.[3] Godwin and her sister were brought up by friends of their mother in Westmoreland.[2]
Godwin published The Night before the Bridal and other poems before she married a Mr Godwin who had worked for the East India Company. She followed this with another book of poetry and she died in 1845.
In 1854 A. Cleveland Wigan gathered together her poems and had them published with her self-portrait.[2]
