Catharine Garmany

Catharine "Katy" D. Garmany (born 1945) is an astronomer. She holds a B.S. (astrophysics), 1966 from Indiana University; a M.A. (astrophysics), 1968 from the University of Virginia; and a Ph.D. (astronomy), 1971, also from the University of Virginia.[1] As of 2013, she works at the National Optical Astronomy Observatory.[1] Catharine's main areas of research are massive stars, evolution and formation; astronomical education [1]

She was a board member of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific from 1998 to 2001, and then the vice president from 2001 to 2003.[2] She is most recognised in association with her work on star formation. She was awarded the Annie J. Cannon Award in Astronomy by the American Astronomical Society.
