Catharanthine is a terpene indole alkaloid produced by the medicinal plant Catharanthus roseus. Catharanthine is derived from strictosidine but the exact mechanism by which this happens is currently unknown. Catharanthine in one of the two precursor, along with vindoline that forms vinblastine.
