Cassie Mitchell is an American chemist and Paralympic discus thrower and cyclist.
Biography
Early life
Mitchell was born in 1981 in Muskogee, Oklahoma.[1] In 2004 she graduated from Oklahoma State University with a BS degree in chemical engineering. Despite her disability she was elected as a President of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers where she did some researching and played on a wheelchair basketball team. Later on she got her PhD in biomedical engineering from both Emory and Georgia Tech universities. Currently she is a professor at Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at both places.[2]

She won a silver medal at the 2011 IPC World Championships and the same year won 6 gold ones at both the UCI National Para-cycling Championships and National Para-cycling Championships. A year before it she was a National Para-cycling Championships gold medalist for H1 criterium and was also Americas record holder in both 400 metres (1,300 ft) and 800 metres (2,600 ft) discus.[1]
