History

Cassa di Risparmio in Bologna formally started on 26 September 1837 after the idea of forming a bank emerged 2 years before in Bologna, Papal States.[1] In 1991, due to Legge Amato, the bank ownership, charity and daily banking operation were separated into Fondazione Carisbo and the Società per azioni. Carisbo SpA also became part of Gruppo Bancario Casse Emiliano Romagnole (CAER) in 1992, despite still under majority ownership of the foundation. In 1994 Carisbo-CAER acquired BIMER Banca,[1] in 1997 acquired Banca Popolare dell'Adriatico.[1] In 1996 Carisbo-CAER made a bid to Banca Agricola di Gorizia[5] which was sold to Banca Popolare di Cividale in 2000.[6] In 1997 Finemiro, a company of the group, also transformed into Finemiro Banca.[7]

In 2000 Carisbo-CAER merged with Casse Venete to form Cardine Banca. In 2002 Carisbo SpA followed the group merged with Sanpaolo IMI.[1]

In 2007 Carisbo SpA followed Sanpaolo IMI to become part of Intesa Sanpaolo Group.[1]
